About Me

"In this day and age, it remains colossally important to find and nurture and discover new voices just so we can have mere proof that inimitable music experiences and authentic voices still exist... Through the flotsam and the jetsam of modern jazz, rock, folk and r&b comes floating the warm, soul-stirring sound of Seattle vocalist Darliene Parker... Imagine the electric folk soundscapes of Led Zeppelin lll mixed with the jazzy resonance of Cassandra Wilson and the soulful folk ruminations of Tracy Chapman... For an immediate example of what Darliene Parker does so well: see her gorgeous version of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U", in which she transforms the spunky electro-rocker into a wounded, yearning plea for love. Elsewhere the Rio-beach-at-nighttime bossa nova sensibility of "Manha de Carnival" convincingly evokes the soft moonlit jazzy worlds of Esperanza Spalding and Bebel Gilberto. On the passionate lullaby "These Days", Ms. Parker's smokey voice becomes a powerful portal that whisks the listener off to a world where the most important life lessons come with a wistful smile instead of scars and bruises. In short, anyone who has been longing for a beach, a tropical drink, and a warm night under the stars will love the soft power of these song. And overall, in many ways, Ms. Parker's debut self-titled EP is a sunny surprise, a pure delight to listen to, and an engaging nourishing experience in a music world too frequently bereft of true warmth, originality and talent... So bravo brave lucky listeners! Press play and close your eyes... sit back... and enjoy the sound of the waves... and the beauty of the stars..."
